We believe in habits at Campassion. It is our mission that our campers walk away from camp feeling more empowered than ever to help others. While studies haven't landed on the duration of how long it takes to build a habit, we know one thing: the longer the duration, the better the chances of the habit sticking.
Our practices don't just end after two weeks for our campers. Many continue to write in their gratitude journals, teach their siblings about gratitude, meditate before bedtime, lead meditations to their families, and help nonprofits--everything from a lemonade stand going towards a nonprofit to volunteering at a nonprofit with their family.
Your payment covers the cost of materials/supplies, food, space expenses, and our scholarship program to provide camp programming for all children. Materials include books, educational materials for project-based learning, food donations to New Health's Community Fridge, and FosterLove Sweetcases and Superhero Boxes.
Campassion is an education-based camp. Kids will not only be engaging in service projects, but they will learn about the why behind them. Before we jump into any project, we learn about the populations of people who might benefit from kindness: our seniors, kids in foster care, and those facing hygiene, clothing, and food insecurity. This is what makes our projects so meaningful.
Through lessons and read-alouds, our campers not only learn the facts, they engage in a lot of discussion. And we find that the smaller the size of learners, the safer they feel to be open and honest in their shares and questions.
Check out our Instagram! All of the pictures and videos will give your child a "sneak peek" of what they might do at the camp, but it also includes funny videos of kids to teach other kids about easy ways to have fun with service, gratitude, meditation, and exercise.
