Breathe in, breathe out. Meditation is a well-talked about topic nowadays and there is so much research showing how it helps us adults. But more and more research is supporting the idea that kids benefit as well.
As our children moved from the classroom to the computer in 2020, so much has happened to student attention and focus while learning. In the beginning of coming back to the classroom, teachers noticed kids struggle with focusing on tasks and building stamina to complete them.
Teachers have also noticed differences within student personal selves such as lessened self-awareness, recognizing emotions, and knowing what to do with them.
Using the amazing mindfulness program for kids, "Inner Explorer," we will begin our day with guided meditation, focusing on a specific mindfulness skill of the day. Be it paying attention to our breath and visualizing your calmest place, to repeating positive affirmations with our eyes closed, kids at Campassion will be honing this wellness habit into their daily routine. The best part? We even had a visit from Inner Explorer and enjoyed a live meditation!
We were also fortunate to be visited by yoga expert Amy Leydon of Soma Yoga in the North End, who through her mindfulness practice emphasized being able to identify all emotions as important and good.
